In tales of olde in Alpine folklore, Krampus (half-man, half-beast) would roam the streets around Yule punishing children who were naughty. The myths and lore of Krampus abound and although there is some debate over the exact origin, he seems to have risen out of the ashes of old pagan celebrations of Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. Krampus is still celebrated to this day with Yuletide traditions beginning in early December and continuing throughout the month.
