Years before Elder Sisters began, our Sisterhood had been forged through the liminal spaces of sunset & moonrise, studying/teaching yoga, and our mutual call to choose questions over answers. We came to discover within each other our collective love of the Earth, reverence of the Moon, and awe-filled dance with Mystery, as well as our visceral connection to our Celtic lineage. Both of us carried a deep, seemingly ancient calling to live from our own inherent magick and to support others to do the same.
The raw hedgerows and craggy shores of Isle of Skye, Scotland is the home of our souls and the place we root our feet and hearts at least once each year. The magick edgelands and breathtaking mountains of the Catskills (NY) is the wild place we root hearth and home. Elder Sisters is deeply rooted in both.
We are honored to be in partnership with the land and water of both the Catskill Mountains and the Hills of Skye as well as all of the animals and creatures that are part of such a vibrant ecosystem. It’s deeply important to us to take in what the land has to teach us and to understand the ‘Genius Loci’ (spirit of a place) of the land in which we live, love and work. At the same time, we are in co-creation, bringing new possibilities to the land and forging a unique relationship with her along with the plant and animal life around us. We are a part of the land’s dreaming just as much as she is a part of ours. Elder Sisters is an offering from that dreaming.
We birthed Elder Sisters during the Winter Solstice season of 2018 to bring together our profound love of Land and Moon with our passion of supporting others to live their own vibrancy. Elder Sisters began as an online herbal apothecary that offered products to support physical and energetic wellbeing as well as a resource for individuals to deepen their connection to the wisdom and magick of the Earth. Combining intuition and science, energetics and years of study/immersion, we handcraft all of our products in ritual by the phase of the Moon that best supports the physical/energetic intention of the remedy.
We very much believe that our work has its own breath, energy, and life cycle that will grow as much as we do. Elder Sisters has since evolved to integrate and alchemize all of our work, incorporating the ways of old and sacred traditions through yoga, herbalism, holistic health, green witchcraft, reiki, Celtic myth, and ritual. The wisdom and magick we have received from each of these ancient practices fills every potion, class, workshop and retreat that we offer.
We are a strong, dedicated team of two women — Jackie & Lisa — who craft, brew, and tend to all aspects of this incredible business. Elder Sisters would not exist however, without the potent wisdom and partnership of the plant-folk and green beings as well as the magick and guidance from the Moon. We would also be remiss without honouring our fluffy, vibrant soul-dog Bear who brings energy and heart to everything that we do.
